This is an open discussion forum for users to discuss WebRing features, wishes, thoughts, etc. QUESTIONS about and PROBLEMS with the System should be posted in detail using the support forums in Help. Negative, derogatory or personal comments will be deleted. Sadly, due to spamming and anonymous trashing of other users we have had to restrict posting to signed in members.

Adoption process is whacked! - 03/13/2004
Quite some time back adoptions were done manually.

This was a very lengthly process. At times there were anything in excess of 250 adoption applications which were running anything up to 5 or 6 month behind.

These maybe of interest:

Although managers find fault with both systems used for adoption of rings, personally the automated system has shown to be far more effective into getting neglected rings into management hands far quicker and over all this has been a good thing for rings concerned and its members.

To speak of my own example. When I first became involved in webrings I had created a few of my own and I joined a few also. One I joined was quite a large ring with some 400+ members. About 4 months after joining this ring the RM asked if I would be interested in taking over management of this ring. WOW! I was truly honored and accepted the invitation.

Today I still have this ring.

The navigational rating has never gone below 95.

If this ring was made adoptable , base on the manual process criteria, it would never have been given to me.

This is the very ring which gave me the score needed to adopt others once the automated system was launched.

Manual OR Automated?

For me the Automated gets the thumbs up.

Thanks...that was very informative...the links you listed..I have only been ringmastering for about 4 to 5 months and have adopted 40+ rings out of the 50 that I have...I certainly have to say that automated is the way to stay....as for the length involved..that has never been an adverse issue with this ringmaster...and from those links you provided...well, it is like 1000% improvement..

This is the Home Page for that list:

This was where all Help requests were done before the WebRing.com Forums arrived.

Certainly makes for wonderful piece of history of WebRinig.com evolution.

And since you mentioned the ancient Help Group, let me say that it STILL exists for communication of system issues when the Help Forum (which IS reopening very soon) is inaccessible due to server issues. So the roughly 181 Users who still hold membership in that Group are the first ones to know exactly what is going on when the Forums aren't an option. Memberships are accepted still. All members are set for "receive special announcements" just before I post a problem announcement. It's rarely used, but it's there....just in case!
So, it's more than history, it's a back up plan!
