Webring - A Poor Business Model - 10/01/2006
I can appreciate, as much as the next guy, about wanting to make a buck for a service you offer. I've been running a Pokemon fanfic & fanart website for a number of years at my own cost. I would *love* to get an advertiser - even just one - to offset some of my costs. If not, then I'll still run the site at my cost. It's my contribution to Pokemon fans.

And now, after all these years of using Webring's services for free - which they offered it for, they're going to finally charge for their services *and* force limits on what we can have? How did these guys think we would react? If they had been smart about it, they would've created the limits at the beginning, *then* start charging for servies. Or at least, done the whole thing at the same time. Heh, I guess they never bothered to hire (or even ask) someone who had a degree in business or somebody with common sense.

In any case, it's not that important now. According to my monthly website statistics, I get virtually no traffic through my rings, so I have little to no incentive to even consider keeping the free service.

Thus, I'll just toss up my rings and let them fall where they may. I get nothing from them and thus, they will get nothing from me.
